Description
According that historian from Greek antiquities, Plutarch, Pan was the only one of their gods to die. The god of groves, glens, forests and certainly a horny little devil, Pan is thought to be one of the oldest gods in the Greek pantheon.
Some say Pan died to make way for Christ, who does bear an eerie resemblance to the horned god in some respects. At any rate, he didn’t stay dead. By the seventeenth and eighteenth century, Pan was making a comeback, if he ever went away to begin with.
It took the Mike Scott and the Waterboys to set the whole thing to music, (after searching for The Pan Within) when they proclaimed “the great god Pan, is ALIVE!”
