Description
It was said to be the original funny farm, a mental institution meant to house the overflow from the New York City psych wards, out on Long Island. The patients were given the “opportunity” to work on the farm, which gave them a sense of purpose. And no doubt at times their mission was accomplished. But many were too mad to do much productive work, psychiatric treatments became more experimental, and in the process, horrifying.
Today all that remains are the buildings and expansive campus, now a county park. And perhaps one of the most bucolic places on Long Island to chill your blood.
