Description
Sunnyside was once the home of Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle, amongst many others. He added to the house over the course of his life, and it eventually became a magnet for artists and writers in New York City and the Hudson Valley, as Irving became what many consider to be America’s first real author of note.
When Irving bought it, it was little more than a farm cottage. It was once home to the Van Tassell family, and the location of the party Ichabod Crane was coming home from in the climax of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
