I admit I had doubts it would do it. The USDA lists our plant hardiness zone as 6b, which isn’t exactly this plant’s natural habitat. But it did it. There was a single bloom which last four or five days, and as it was dying off the whole trees burst into bloom.
The first bloom would wilt during the day, then unfold again in the evening. It was fairly mild compared to the hot temperatures (93+) we’d been having.
I have to say, I was disappointed with the night scent. Granted, up close it was insanely sweet. But from my chair, eight feet away, not a trace.
Then the heat came back. The second morning after the tree went into full bloom, the temperature was pushing a hundred degrees or more. There was no rain. I did water two and three times a day. That second morning I awoke to find the blooms as flaccid as the men’s locker room at the Christian Coalition gym.
But the next round is starting to come out, I’m working on a somewhat shadier spot as the gods don’t seem to be working on giving us a break from the sun and heat.
